RADIATOR CAP

You might know that your car’s radiator is responsible for keeping the engine from overheating. What is interesting and often overlooked is the importance of a small and seemingly unimportant component, the radiator cap. A bad radiator cap can render the whole cooling system ineffective and cause costly damage to the precious engine. Therefore, knowing the functions and symptoms of a bad radiator cap is a handy and straightforward DIY maintenance tip that you should pocket to maximize your engine’s performance and lifespan.

The Importance of Radiator Cap

The radiator cap controls this expansion and maintains a constant level of pressure inside the cooling system. The radiator cap also allows the engine coolant to contract and move back to the radiator without letting air enter the cooling system.

The radiator cap acts as a release valve set to open at the maximum pressure point – this is the radiator cap’s rated pressure. This is typically set at a density of 15 psi, otherwise at somewhere between 13 and 16 psi.

BATTERIES

A car battery is essential to the life of your vehicle and if you neglect it you’ll find yourself looking for a mechanic as soon as possible. Why? Well, there are many reasons for that. The first is that the battery interacts with more parts in your vehicle than you may think or know exist, and it can harm them if it’s severely damaged. Your car battery, if poorly maintained, has the ability to completely shut your vehicle down. Until you replace it.

What Does it Do?

Your car battery is the central power hub of your vehicle for all things electrical. It stores electricity and then sends out jolts to every single electrical component in your vehicle. Not only does it power the electrical components, but it also keeps the electrical current in your car steady, which means it makes sure your car starts and has enough electricity to stay running. Your battery is the pulse of your vehicle. Without it, your car won’t run. Regular checks on your battery is needed to maintain optimum performance.

TYRES

Tyres are one of the most important and most overlooked parts on a modern-day vehicle.

They are the main contact your vehicle has with the road and many people fail to realise that tyres require maintenance on a regular basis for them to continue operating at their peak.

When it comes to tyre safety, your tyre pressure and overall condition are vital, but by far the most

important factor is your tyre tread depth. By law, all car tyres must have a minimum continuous tread depth of 1.6mm.

As your tyres wear down, your grip on the road reduces, and your stopping distance increases. A car with 1.6mm treads can take an extra two car lengths to stop at 50mph in wet weather, compared to one with 3mm tread. This difference in stopping distance increases the likelihood of an accident.

Not too sure about your tyres condition, our technicians help you with that.

BULBS

The lights play an important part in your vehicle. This is what helps you to see when you are driving. If the lights are poor, you increase your chance of an accident. This is because you will not notice where or what might be in the road ahead. By inspecting the lights regularly, you can determine what is ahead of you. If you notice that the lights are dim or no longer aligned properly, make sure to bring the vehicle in so we can inspect it properly. This can help improve the safety of the vehicle when you drive, day or night.

CHANGE YOUR BULBS AS A PAIR

Has one of your bulbs failed? Or perhaps you’re thinking of upgrading your bulbs? Either way, we would always suggest that you change your bulbs in pairs. There are a few reasons why.

Firstly, if one bulb has failed, the other is likely to fail soon after.

Secondly, if you replace both bulbs together, you’ll get an evenly-matched beam pattern and colour.

If your bulbs are installed at different times, the quality of one bulb decreases at a different rate to the other bulb which leaves an obvious light imbalance. We recommend changing your bulbs in pairs at the same time so that you have to repeat the process less often.

SPARK PLUGS

Why are spark plugs so important to your engine?

Most people don’t think much about spark plugs before choosing one, yet these small parts play a crucial role in the functioning of a car. In fact, without proper & working spark plugs, it’s likely that your car wouldn’t be able to run at all.

What do best quality spark plugs do?

Your engine is designed to turn an energy source into actual movement. But how does it do this? The answer lies in the principle known as internal combustion. Your engine needs to find a way to release the energy, in order to turn the fuel in your car from a source of potential energy into a source of kinetic energy, and it does so through the combustion process.

And the engine cycle makes this process happen. In your engine cycle, valves fill the cylinder with a mixture of fuel and air, which is a highly explosive mixture. As the piston in your engine moves, it compresses this mixture until it’s in a small space, which creates even more potential energy.  When the compression is at its peak, the engine ignites this mixture, which creates an explosion that forces the piston back downward, turning the shaft in your engine and generating the power which makes your car move forward.

Be sure to check the vehicle’s owner’s manual to see the lifespan of the spark plug and never let your spark plugs go past their rated mileage.

WIPER BLADE: The Eyelid of Your Car

KNOW MORE ABOUT THE PRODUCT

Safety is the top concern for all drivers. Whatever the weather conditions, it is important to be equipped with a pair of good wiper blades, to ensure clear visibility. Valeo wiper blades with unique design features, superior quality materials & made to the strictest OEM standards, are what each driver needs to ensure clear visibility.

WHAT IS THE REPLACEMENT TIME FRAME?

We recommend replacement of wipers to be at least once a year.

WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO REPLACE IT?

Wiper Blades eventually deteriorate with use, producing a streaky or uneven finish on the windscreen. To ensure a clear, safe field of vision even in bad weather, it is important to ensure the Wiper Blades are regularly checked and replaced as soon as deterioration is seen.

BRAKE PAD

IMPORTANCE OF BRAKE PADS

The brake system of your vehicle is by far the most important safety system you cannot do without. Inefficient and bad brakes endanger both the driver, the occupants of the vehicle, and other road users, especially in a panic/stop situation.

  • Signs of Bad Brakes
  • A vehicle warning light.
  • Unusual sounds
  • Unusual vibrations.
  • The vehicle pulls.
  • Diminished responsiveness.
  • Your brake pad is too thin.

Check your brake pad every 30,000km for a possible replacement.

CABIN AIR FILTER: The Nose of Your Car

KNOW MORE ABOUT THE PRODUCT

Just like the air-conditioner in your house, the air-conditioner in your car has a special filter. Car airconditioner filters, cleanse the air both from outside and from within. Our Cabin Air Filter blocks Mold, Dust, and Pollen, that comes from outside, and keeps the air within the car clean.

WHAT IS THE REPLACEMENT TIME FRAME?

We recommend replacement interval to be after every 10,000km mileage.

WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO REPLACE IT?

After every 10,000km mileage, filter clogging can happen. This can result in poor ventilation and prevent the air conditioner from working properly. Filter filtration efficiency will not be as good, and dirty air will reach the car cabin, instead of clean air. Therefore, the filter is recommended to be replaced after every 10,000km mileage.

AIR FILTER: The Lung of Your Engine

KNOW MORE ABOUT THE PRODUCT

Air Filter works to remove impurities contained in the air such as dust and foreign particles to supply clean air to the engine. Without an air filter, polluted air may enter the automobile’s engine when power is generated through the repeated cycle of intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust. This will lead to insufficient combustion and power and also shorten engine life, due to damages by foreign particles.

WHAT IS THE REPLACEMENT TIME FRAME?

We recommend replacement interval to be every 10,000km, with periodic cleaning at every 5,000km. However, do also refer to the instruction manual and maintenance records of the vehicle for more accurate details as the right replacement interval may vary depending on the models.

WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO REPLACE IT?

Since the air filter element absorbs a lot of dust and other foreign objects just like household air conditioners and vacuums, the filter element gets dark and clogging occurs after use for the long term. Clogging will reduce air passing through the filter and therefore cause imperfect combustion in the combustion process. In an imperfect combustion state, engine performance such as accelerating force and fuel efficiency are impaired, and harmful gas emissions increased thereby will adversely affect the environment.

OIL FILTER: The Kidney of Your Engine

KNOW MORE ABOUT THE PRODUCT

The oil filter in your engine system filters the impurities and keeps the engine oil clean.

WHAT PURPOSE DOES THIS SERVE, YOU MIGHT ASK?

The engine oil is an important component that keeps your automobile moving. However, it gradually becomes tainted as metal particles and carbon contents are mixed. Such impurities occur due to the repeated cycles of intake, compression, combustion and exhaust created by the engine parts to keep the automobile moving.

With such repeated movement, friction occurs. Engine oil serves as lubricant to prevent the metalparticle/carbon contamination caused by frictions and combustion and cleans up the inside of the engine, keeping the movement smooth.

WHAT IS THE REPLACEMENT TIME FRAME?

We do not recommend a specific replacement interval as the right replacement interval may vary depending on the models. Refer to the instruction manual and maintenance records of the vehicle for details.

WHY IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO REPLACE IT?

Like filters of water purifier, oil filter element (filter media) gets contaminated over time and clogging occurs if the element is not replaced at the proper interval. Continuous use of clogged element will activate the relief valve. This means engine oil laced with metal particles and carbon contents will circulate across the engine. This will not only hasten the deterioration of engine oil itself but also damage engine parts by metal particles, leading to engine failure. In addition, the circulation of unfiltered engine oil will cause combustion losses due to the accumulation of contamination in the engine and then weaken engine performance and fuel efficiency. Therefore, the oil filter must be replaced at the right interval.
